Claude Code /status — Check Version, Model, Account, Connection at a Glance
Unsure what to check first when things suddenly slow down? This beginner guide explains how to inspect version, model, account, and connection at a glance
When work that usually runs fine suddenly slows down or responses seem off, it's hard to know what to check first. /status shows at a glance which version and model you're running on, and with which account and connection state, for moments like this.
Definition (what it is)
/status is a command that shows your current version, model, account, and connection state. It gathers the information corresponding to the Status tab of the settings screen.
Here, model means the type of AI currently handling your work, and connection state means whether you're communicating normally with the server. Being able to check these four in one place gives you a starting point for narrowing down the cause when something is off.
How to use it (by level)
Basic — View the current status
Type this in the input box.
/status
This neatly lays out the version, the model in use, the logged-in account, and the connection state. Just scan it for any parts that differ from the usual values.
Real-world example
When responses are slow or behavior differs from usual, inspect with /status. Checking at once whether it's the intended model, whether the connection dropped, or whether the logged-in account changed lets you quickly narrow down the answer to "why is this happening?"
Taking it further
If you've seen the status but want to diagnose more deeply where the problem is, continue with /doctor (environment check). If you're curious about usage, viewing it alongside /usage (usage check) gives you the full picture. Learning it as a check command to type first whenever something gets tangled is reassuring.
Wrap-up
/status is a check command that shows version, model, account, and connection state at a glance. Typing it first when things are slow or off to check the state lets you quickly narrow down the cause of a problem. For deeper diagnosis, continue with /doctor.
