Obsidian 1.13.0 — A Searchable Settings Panel and Stronger URI Security

The note-taking app Obsidian has released desktop 1.13.0 (early access). The headline change is a revamped Settings panel that now opens in its own window and can be searched by name or description, alongside several security improvements including a confirmation dialog before Obsidian URIs fire.

What's new

  • Revamped Settings — Settings open in a new window and are searchable by name or description. Arrow-key and Vim navigation are supported, with Ctrl/Cmd-F to re-focus search. (The new-window behavior can be turned off in Interface settings.)
  • Stronger security — Obsidian URIs now show a confirmation dialog before firing (with a manageable allow list), a warning appears before loading HTML resources from a network drive, and a warning dialog is shown when syncing plugins via Obsidian Sync.
  • Folder drag import — On desktop, dragging a folder into the app imports the entire folder and preserves its directory structure.
  • Editor & more — In Live Preview, images can be selected, deleted, and copied via the keyboard; Bookmarks view gains search; and a one-time banner confirms Mermaid rendering.

Our take

From a product builder's perspective, "searchable settings" is no longer optional — it's table stakes once an app crosses a certain number of options. The more features you add, the more discoverability design becomes a competitive edge. At the same time, the URI confirmation dialog reflects a welcome effort not to trade security away for extensibility.
